About What Gets It Out
Plain, sourced answers to "how do I get X out of Y", for people in the UK.
What this site is
What Gets It Out answers one question per page: how do I get this stain out of that thing? It's written for people in the UK, so it uses UK spelling and names products you can find in UK supermarkets and chemists.
There are 15 guides at the moment, in four sections: laundry, clothes and fabrics, mattresses and sofas, and carpets and bathroom. There's also an A–Z of stains.
How the guides are researched
- Every method, quantity, time and temperature comes from a published source: care-labelling bodies, university extension services, trade associations, public health bodies and the makers' own instructions.
- Each step is cited with a numbered link to its source, at the bottom of the page.
- If a topic can't be sourced well, we don't publish it.
- Each guide shows the date its sources were last checked.

Amazon links, and no prices
Some "What you need" items have a Find on Amazon link. These go to Amazon UK search results for the product name or type the guide already gives, not to a hand-picked listing. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The recommendations come from the cited sources, not from commission, and commission never changes the advice. Product names appear only because a method or a maker's instructions use them; there is no ranking of brands, no sponsored placements and no adverts. We don't list prices or star ratings, because they change and we can't keep them accurate.
Where the questions come from
Topics come from questions people commonly ask online. Where a guide was prompted by a public post, its source notes link to an example of the question. We don't quote personal posts.
